From its start ENLP has had the support of four consumer oriented food companies: Danone, Kraft Foods, Nestlé and Unilever in a public/private cooperation. It was leveraged by the European Union for 6 years. The sponsors all realize that the use of good nutrition to improve the health of the European consumer would be helped enormously by the existence of a next generation of nutrition leaders with good appreciation of the importance of communication and team building.
The four industrial sponsors see such a network as one of the decisive factors in the further development of European nutrition and safety regulations and responsible consumer communication. They have, apart from the financial support (committed until 2013), always been involved in the ENLP programs through presenting their experiences and running case studies, that give participants a feeling of how responsible industries work. ENLP alumni have also worked as postdocs or on a more permanent basis in the nutrition departments of the companies. Other companies, such as DSM also contribute with a lower amount.
The long term commitment of the sponsors shows that the original ideas have come to life.
